Are you thinking about great sex for the New Year? Well, why not? Contrary to popular belief, sex really is a big thing. Even though our culture tries to tell you that getting good sex on a regular basis isn’t really a big deal, the truth is that you really deserve to have a good time. After all, we really only have one life to live and who really wants to live it without getting good sex?

We make New Year resolutions about all sorts of things. Maybe you want this to be the year that you get a new job. Maybe this is the year that you’ll finally lose those 20 pounds. However, those goals take a lot of work when you compare them to the goal of getting better sex.

In order to get better sex, you have to have better communication. That’s one thing that people don’t really get. They assume that sex is something that exists is a vacuum without words. You might be able to pull that off with someone that you’ve been in a relationship with a long time, but the truth is that you have to get to that point with conversations and plenty of them.

You need to make sure that you think about the current situation you’re in with your sex partner. Are you at a point where you can have these conversations openly without someone feeling like they’re at fault? Good sex takes two parties, so if you have a partner that doesn’t really want to make any changes, you might have bigger problems than just sex.

Figuring out what your partner likes shouldn’t be difficult — just ask them! You might be surprised at what another person wants, because they don’t always want to tell you. They might be worried that you will not stay with them if all of their sexual desires are revealed.

Yet if you already have a great foundation with your partner, you can get all of these things out into the open without anyone feeling upset. It’s also important to make sure that when you bring up your sexual concerns that you don’t use language that would make the other person believe that they haven’t been pleasing you at all. Try to think of some things that you really liked in bed as you make suggestions. That way the other person feels like they truly made a connection with you, and you just need a little more to turn a good sexual experience into a great one.

Don’t be afraid to add in things that others might not be into. Nothing in life says that we all have to like the same things in bed. If you really like the idea of your partner dressing up in a sexy costume, why not lead the charge by taking them to an adult shop where they sell costumes? You can talk about how much it turns you on and how you would like to have them do something that includes both of you. So while you might like costumes, it might not be a bad idea to take them along rather than surprising them with a costume they next time they see you in bed.

Being open and confident also helps. If you’re unsure about bringing up your sexual desires, you’re automatically implying that they’re very weird things to be aroused by and thus they should be ignored at all costs. You really don’t want to find yourself in the position of not being able to take care of your wants and needs, but you also don’t want to alienate your partner.

As you can see, great sex really does fall back on great communication at every turn. Looking at the good parts of your sex life and the areas that you want to improve are equally important. The more you can talk with your partner casually, the easier it will be to turn things around.

Naturally, you might come to a point where you really have to move beyond your partner. That doesn’t mean that your quest for great sex is over. If anything, it’s really a new chapter in your life. So you just have to make sure that you look into all of the different angles of the situation. If you are moving on with someone new, then you have a chance to build the foundation that you need for great sex. Communication, honesty, and trust are all principles that lead to great sex. So focus on those and you’ll be just fine!
